How to install Mazdaspeed 4 point roll bar?

Postby SLO_NA » Fri Jan 06, 2017 3:30 pm

Hi :)
I was wondering how to install a mazdaspeed 4pt chrome roll bar?
Its the one that bolts to the parcel shelf and the seat belt towers, I've found some other threads but they weren't much help as there was no install instructions or detailed photos.

I've tried installing it but the bar sits a bit too low for the arms to bolt to the parcel shelf.
Also when the roll bar is installed the seat belts hit the roll bar mount and the can't turn properly
It would be great if someone could show me some pics of how they installed theirs and some pics of the seatbelt spacer arrangement.
I don't have any of the install hardware such as the spacers and bolts but a quick trip bunnings tonight will solve that i hope

Thanks :D

I installed one of these last year on my NB8A it was a PITA.

a few tips that werent in any guides I found online:

You will need longer seatbelt tower bolts so the seatbelt can swivel. I used a 7/16" UNF x 4-1/2" Zinc coated grade 8. I would suggest DYOR as to if you think the size and grading is suitable for you, worked well for me though.

another bolt goes up through the seatbelt tower and into a thread underneath the main tubing, if planning on using a seatbelt tower brace bar combined with the Mazdaspeed rollbar, the bolt goes up through the seatbelt tower through the tower brace bar into a nut that fits the bolt (use dab of loctite and stick a open end spanner on the nut whilst you torque the bolt with an extended ratchet sock from the in/underside of the seat belt tower) then into the thread on the underside of the rollbar main tubing. if you use the brace bar with the rollbar and don't use a nut ontop of the brace bar but underneath the rollbar, the brace bar moves around and is not secure. if not using the brace bar then you probably dont need the nut.

you will need to cut the trim pieces either side of the seat belt towers. I used a dremel.

from memory most of the m10 bolts screwed into existing holes in the parcel shelf. but I had to drill 1 or 2 holes for the legs. also you will need washers of various heights to lift certain points of the legs to ensure it is level as the parcel shelf has recessed sections.

Thanks Harty for your info :D
I finally managed to fit the roll bar and no spacers or longer bolts were needed the only spacers that were needed were for the two arms that bolt to the rear deck and i used washers instead as i didn't have the original spacers. For the seat belt mounts the 20mm? spacer and 4mm washer were moved to the top above the roll bar mount and the two 15mm spacers were moved to the bottom under the roll bar mount, this setup meant that the seat belt would have enough room to swivel and the bolt was just long enough to catch the threads to hold the seat belt tightly. Will provide some pics later today. Thanks for the help guys! :D
