Tyre pressure won't affect body roll but 31 (cold) would be a better all round figure to run with IMO. An MX-5 will be quite "skittish" on bumpy surfaces at 39-40 psi.

I reckon it's this.

I might be crazy but sometimes I feel like my car is smoother/faster etc.. after something minor is changed but after a few days I realise nothing really changed and it was a placebo caused by me trying to think about if the car is better or worse.

I only use full synthetic oil in my engine, gearbox and diff. I figure that it's cheap insurance to keep the internals running at their best.

I use both 0W40 and 5W30 from Nulon in my NC engine, and yes I (and others) do notice a difference in top speed at the track using Nulon's top of the range 0W40 compared to other weight oils.

For normal day to day driving 5W30 is all you will need. I have used 10W50 at the track on very hot days (38 degrees) but that was when I couldn’t get the 0W40.

Next tip for smooth gearbox changes is to make sure that you only put a GL4 grade 75W90 in the gearbox. A GL5 oil will cause baulking during the change.
