If I got a hardtop I wouldnt remove the soft top. Id most likely just leave the hardtop on permanently anyway but probably not going to happen at all now.
Definitely more headroom in an 86.

Forget the hardtop, just trade the NB for an 86 or BRZ.
Also, don't waste money getting a second MX5. Double registration, insurance and maintenance is madness unless you are like Zero00 and have deep pockets.
