Anyone Have a Car Trailer I Could Please Hire?

Postby Junkee » Mon Jun 16, 2014 3:22 pm

Hey guys, not sure what section to put this in, but here seems appropriate..

Just wondering if anyone in the Gold Coast area has a car trailer that I could hire to pick up my first mx5 on Thursday?

I would need it for roughly 24 hours.. Picking the trailer up on Wednesday the 18th in the afternoon/ night, then dropping it back Thursday the 19th afternoon/ night.

Obviously I will pay for the hire and can leave a deposit with the owner as well as my licence details etc.

Just looking for something cheaper then all the service stations are offering which is $100+ for 24 hours.

Cheers, Liam :D

I have one, but it is in Ipswich. The trailer (tilt type) would require the car towing it to have a brake controller as it is rated for 2.5t.

Thanks for the quick reply mate and I really appreciate the offer, but Ipswich is a bit far :)

I have found some trailers on Gumtree for $65 but in Brisbane, which would mean I would have to drive back up there to drop it off when I'm done, adding another 2hrs to the trip..

Off topic, but I am halfway through reading your build thread.. Can I just say that you have given me a lot of inspiration :D and your car is amazing!

No problem. I will be down to pick the trailer up on 25/06/14 and bring it back to Blackwater (with the MX5 on it).

Is the car driveable as a permit maybe cheaper?

I hope you enjoy your purchase and welcome to the obsession. When you get it running make sure you pop up to the Southbound BP at Burpengary for a coffee each Saturday at arund 0730.

I'm glad you enjoy reading the thread, the car has evolved over time. Now it is just a case of fine tuning as well as getting seat time. However, it is very difficult to resist the mod bug and it still bites (hard). The build thread is now more of a what I have done instead of what could I do. I have some plans for the weight loss, but these will be revealed after the event, involves allowing the mod bug access to my wallet. Notwithstanding my car is just so much fun to drive, however with it in Brisbane and me in Blackwater we don't get to play much at the moment :( That reminds me my partner is also in Brisbane, but I don't miss her as much :)

No the car isn't driveable in it's current state.. I am looking at doing a 1.8L swap ASAP to get it on the road..

I have a friend that races a cobra at QR and another friend that wants to take his Evo to the track.. So the sooner I get it up an running the better =)

you might be able to hire a trailer a little cheaper- shop around but in any event you will not save much. You go to a garage/ hire centre do a business deal and get a trailer that is fit for purpose- check it, see the lights work , does it have a winch and ramps - it probably has all those things. I borrowed a trailer at one stage from a pal and found it was a mistake . Later on examination the trailer was not roadworthy and another mate advised me not to put a vehicle on it- I took his advice- glad I did. I ended up hiring a trailer. It cost me time ( days) and extra money.

I would not have offered my trailer if it was not roadworthy, registered, insured, simple to use and suitable. I even advised of the requirements to tow it (trailer brake controller). Plus there a few people on here whose cars I have towed one of them even made me realise that I needed to put a small hand winch on the trailer in case it was ever needed. Bonus is I have had t use the winch a few times now so easier than trying to push it on :)

I hope you found your means of transport. I used a towing company on the gold coast prior to getting my trailer, we were on first name basis and he knew all my cars and where MX5 Plus was :)

Thanks for the advise guys.. I ended up booking a trailer from trailerezyrentals which was $111 for 24 hours + $100 deposit..

Although I forgot to ask if it has a winch.. I'll give them a call today to confirm..

I did notice they had 30% off hires on Wednesdays at some of there stores which would have been nice.. But I called the store it applied to and it was booked haha, oh well..

I'll let you guys know how I go.. I will probably start my own build thread of the process :)
