Intro & Mx5 Part Numbers

Postby Sage » Thu Jun 05, 2014 10:30 am

Hi all,

Been around awhile and been looking for a nice NA for about 18 months and finally got one a couple of weeks ago..

1991
1.6 with some mild head work
Adjustable CAMs
1.5L Plenum
Big intake
Exhaust
Fully adjustable Coilovers
Electric water pump
42mm Radiator
Adaptronic ECU

Anyways its a nice toy though like all of them needs work.

Just going over it now and checking all the seals etc. Though what i am having a hard time with is finding Mazda part numbers.

I have found a Service Manual online which seems ok and has lots of diagrams though no part numbers.

Where can i find Mazda part numbers? I am usually a Nissan man and with Nissan's they are very easy to come by. Though not having much luck with Mazda.

In this case i am looking for the weatherstrips (door to glass directly on top of the doors). Though id like to know where to look in future.

Little help would be great. Thanks!

Another way of finding/ordering parts without knowing the part number for our obsession is via the MX5 Parts (UK) website.

For example.
http://www.mx5parts.co.uk/advanced_sear ... ip&sort=2a

Like others here I have ordered a number of parts from them. Fairly priced, and usually fast turn around.

You can find Mazda spare part numbers at Mazda and that is the most reliable source- though if they don't stock the item not sure on their policy- if a part is handed then its number will be unique. There are thousands of parts in an MX5. Where do you look for parts- start of with Mazda for a bench mark and price and availability and part nbr if you need it. Bursons for items that they service and MX5 UK who often undersell Mazda Aust because of Mazda policies and obvious lack of interest in small lost sales. Incidentally Bursons is the largest supplier to the trade in Au.

what a stupid post.

if you want a "part" from mazda (or any manufacturer for that matter), the "parts department" will ask you for a "part number"

If you go there and say "Hi I need 3 of those plastic screws that hold the thing in on the back of the thing" you'll get no-where.

so having a source that has the part numbers makes it easier when you go to parts chick at Mazda or Bursons and say "Can I have 3 of those plastic screws... part number UB6IB9"

since you are all being helpful ill share why i like to find the part numbers.. i generally order all jap parts straight from japan from:

http://www.amayama.com/

I just ordered a number of seals and a plastic cover for my mx5 from them at was almost half the price of mazda australia including delivery from japan..

So for those that like to DIY check em out..

I found em cause my everyday car is a 2003 Nissan Stagea.. never find any parts locally..

Hope it helps some people..

I'm with Mr Morlock on this on (OMG).

My experience, at two or three different dealers. I rock up at the parts dept. I try to describe the part I am chasing. They will either drag out the microfiche film listing the parts (with part number) or do the same via their computer console. I confirm the parts from the diagram, they look up the part numbers and confirm the price. At that point I usually head for home and find a better deal online.

By using the link provided above, you would have already had the part number and not needed to visit them at all if buying online.

Did anyone have a look at Amayama yet?

Just ordered some more parts and they so much cheaper than Mazda AU. To give you an idea see below.

First price is Mazda AU 2nd is Amayama

109 - 75
36 - 14
39 - 20
5 - 1
17 - 7
23 - 9

And cheap delivery too.. Only set me back $17 delivery from japan. ETA 10 days.

One source I use for finding part numbers is Arlington Mazda. You can also purchase from them but the shipping is very expensive for small items. Cheers for the hint on Amayama. Did you compare those prices against MX5Parts.co.uk? That's where I typically buy genuine Mazda items.
