So, I need some suggestions..

Postby ess » Tue May 13, 2014 1:32 pm

So about a year ago, I bought my '93 na for $7000.. It's now starting to cost me more than I can afford, I have a huge service which I need done with about $1000 in parts I need to get. I also need to able to tow for work, and so that Im able to move from the country and find a decent job, with decent pay at the end of the year, once I finish year 12.
So, I decided to sell the car, I'm down to selling it for $6000 but I can't afford to go anyless, but I still need to get it serviced, new aircon, etc. What do I do? I can afford to got less than 6, but general consensus is that it's worth $5000. Do I bite the bullet and sell it that low?

More details on the car would help but more generally; you bought it for $7k 12 months ago, haven't serviced it since, it needs $1k spent on it in parts alone immediately, and you somehow think it's worth $6k? You see the problem here right?

Ultimately, if the car is worth $5k, the fact that you "need" $6k isn't really relevant.

Something is only worth what someone will pay for it.
If that isn't enough for what you want, then moderate your plans,
or take a little time and put in some effort to add value, then sell it.

Advertise it for what you want, the market will dictate the price you get. You probably could get $6k it is just a matter of how long you are prepared to wait! You say the end of the year well advertise it for your $6k if it has not solded by mid November then you will need to make a decision to revise the price. Between now and then, do some of the small jobs that need to be done.

In your ad you said you paid 8k, here you said you you paid 7k.
In your ad you did not mention any major service it needs, but here you said it needs 1k spent on it.

8k was wrong, as I have been advised by my parents, so I need to change that.

I did mention the service it was due in for, but after going in for the service they have told me what needs to be done.

If you are in a State requiring rwcs then that is what you need to get done. You might need to get some other quotes for work required to reduce the $$. Essentially cars are a liability esp if you are not earning money it may turn into an albatross . Take some advice from family

So I went to my mates mechanic and he said I was being ripped off. Got a full service, new air filter, plugs, etc, for alot less than I was expecting. :) Was just stressing out haha.

You could have done that stuff yourself and learned a thing or two in the process.
