If nothing else there is some pointers for the future. Its also quite possible to leave a deposit on something subject to say a satisfactory report.

Good thinking that, as the law of probability suggests that even a relative idiot like me could charge a fee for an inspection, identify heaps of faults, real or not, and take the risk that nothing goes wrong with the other items for 30 days, even if the client decides to buy the car. Kaching!

But not by our man.

and that was me. Sorry to snatch it before you. I was actually at the shop when someone from adelaide called saying they're going to come see it soon, or something like that.

To save starting another thread, I'm looking at a car in Homebush, Sydney and was wondering if anyone would be able to check it out?

VR (best damned colour!) SE, low kms at a dealership. As before, more than happy to send some cash for your time.

TA- surely you know all the ropes. Most dealers provide warranties and often reports. Paying a non professional to check out a car is not a good idea. So a forum member takes a payment or does not and says the car is worth checking out and it has a problem that you find later- probably bad luck. I have dríven a few MX5s for mates but would never tell them to buy it but maybe to consider it. Probably if you do not trust the dealer get an independent paid for service check or ring the dealer and arrange that you get the chance to see it- even a small holding deposit is not a bad thought. I also would not publicise where the car is as someone may beat you to it.

Mr Morlock - My plan, as before, was to have a forum member check it out, let me know if it looks like a reasonable car then I would get an independent inspection done. But it doesn't matter now as I picked up an SE from a local dealer last night and I'm very happy!

FFG - Thanks mate! I wasn't expecting to buy one just yet but the dealer wanted to move it before the end of the month. Made him a an offer well below what they were asking (way too much), but was more around what it is really worth and they took it! 59,000kms and full books. Picked it up last night and this morning did my first mod :D . Fitted my fixed back so I can actually fit properly haha. Pictures and thread to come soon.

And it sounds like a good one at a good price.

Fantastic :)

Noticed the ad had gone this morning and wondered if you'd grabbed that one. Looks like a really good car. Congrats ...

Thanks guys. Very happy. A few small things I'm going to sort out in the next few weeks. The main one is a rough idle. Not too bad, but I think it could be better.

Oh, it also needs more powah!
